Today Warner Bros. made a ginormous announcement at CinemaCon; Ben Affleck will indeed be starring in and directing the next solo outing of Batman! Now, everyone had kinda-sorta figured this out already, but an official announcement makes it well, official, and that’s great news. Those of you who saw my review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and know of my love for all of Affleck’s directorial efforts so far, know that this confirmation is very exciting. The guy is an amazingly talented director and the best onscreen Caped Crusader ever.
The official Warner Bros. press release said, “Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara opened the program and announced that Ben Affleck—who will again play the role of Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie—will direct, as well as star in, a new stand-alone Batman feature.”
Affleck and his BvS and Justice League co-star, Amy Adams, appeared at Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation to “introduce a thrilling reel spotlighting the Studio’s ambitious slate of DC films.” No date has been announced for the solo Bats movie from Warner Bros. and DC Comics just yet, but I’m betting we won’t have to wait too many years. Affleck will soon be heading over to London to begin filming Justice League: Part One.
The Warner Bros. presentation was held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace during CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, on April 12, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If most of what you know about Ben Affleck is what you see from online tabloids and gossip sites, I encourage you to read this profile on Ben’s charity work with ECI at Glamour. He’s a talented actor and director, but I’m a bit partial to kind human beings as well. His dedication to the women of Congo is something to be commended for sure.
